Overview

Backup infrastructure in the GCC is increasingly split across three layers that never talk to each other: VMware or Hyper-V estates on-premise, Microsoft 365 tenants managed centrally, and a growing tail of remote-office physical servers and end-user devices. Vembu’s BDRShield addresses all three from a single console — with immutable storage, ransomware detection, and instant recovery built in, not bolted on.

The platform covers 30+ workload types including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox, Windows and Linux physical servers, AWS EC2, Azure VMs, Microsoft 365 (Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams) and Google Workspace. Backup jobs are agentless for virtualised workloads and use Changed Block Tracking to keep incremental windows short even on large estates. When recovery is needed, Instant Boot VM spins up a failed machine directly from the backup repository — no full restore required — so RTO stays under 15 minutes regardless of VM size.

Storage destinations include local DAS, NAS and SAN, any S3-compatible object store (Wasabi, Backblaze B2, AWS S3, Azure Blob), and Vembu’s own BDRCloud. Immutability is available on all S3 targets using Object Lock, preventing encryption or deletion by ransomware even if admin credentials are compromised. Anomaly detection flags abnormal backup sizes or job failures that may indicate an active attack, giving operators time to isolate before the next scheduled job overwrites clean recovery points.

Pricing starts at $1.80 per workload per month for VMs and physical servers, $0.40 per user per month for Microsoft 365, and $0.45 per endpoint per month — with a perpetual Free edition covering up to 10 VMs and unlimited physical servers. For GCC organisations running mixed-hypervisor estates with M365, this typically lands 60–70% below enterprise-tier alternatives without feature concessions. Available in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and across the GCC through Distilogix.

Key capabilities

What Vembu does, distilled.

FEAT-01

Agentless VM backup

VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox and KVM — image-level backup with Changed Block Tracking, no agent install and no reboot windows.

FEAT-02

M365 & Google Workspace

Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Gmail and Drive — item-level restore to same or different account, with configurable retention policies.

FEAT-03

Instant Boot VM

Spin up a failed VM directly from the backup repository in under 15 minutes. No full restore required — the live VM migrates back in the background.

FEAT-04

Immutable storage

Object Lock on any S3-compatible target: Wasabi, Backblaze B2, AWS S3, Azure Blob. Ransomware cannot encrypt or delete recovery points even with admin credentials.

FEAT-05

Physical & endpoint

Windows Server, Linux and Windows/Mac endpoints with delta-sync transfers. Self-service restore portal lets users recover their own files without IT.

FEAT-06

Ransomware detection

Anomaly detection flags abnormal backup sizes and job failures that signal an active attack — giving operators time to isolate before clean recovery points are overwritten.
